To use the e-mail service you will require the DataGate mail server details and your account username and password. To administer e-mail accounts and aliases, you will need access to the Shared Business Hosting Control Panel and have your FTP username and password. The following instructions apply to MS Windows based computers. Apple Mac users please click here. Accessing webmail
You can access your mailbox via the DataGate webmail interface which is here:http://webmail.datagate.net.uk Your username is either your FTP username or your full e-mail address.
If you do not do so, your e-mail address will be account_name@datagate.co.uk ] Creating new mailboxes on your account
1. Log in to your Shared Business Hosting Control Panel. [Note: The account username and e-mail address are the same. ] The account is set up! Datagate's mail servers This information will be needed to set up any e-mail software.
Our POP3 (receiving) server is: pop3.datagate.net.uk [Please note that to use our sending server you need to enable SMTP authentication.] SMTP authentication When using the Datagate servers, you need to identify yourself as a legitimate user of the server. The process of identifying yourself is called authentication. This is normally done by submitting a username and password. In most e-mail software, there is an option to enable SMTP authentication. If you are using Datagate's service you need to make sure this is enabled and that you use the same settings (username and password) as your incoming server. If you do not do this and attempt to send e-mail via our SMTP server, the e-mail will be returned with a 'relaying denied' error. Problems sending mail? If you have configured SMTP authentication as described above and are able to use Webmail normally, yet get errors saying "Connection timed out", "Cannot connect" or similar when trying to send mail, it is possible that your ISP is blocking your traffic on port 25, which is used for sending mail. Various ISP's have instated that kind of blocking on various occcasions, and still occasionally do without any warning. If your connection worked and then suddenly stopped, this is very often the cause. To circumvent this, we have configured our server to use port 50025 as well. If you experience similar symptoms, just open your outgoing mail server configuration dialog, and change port number from standard "25" into "50025". This will go around most SMTP blocks.
