Tips for faster connections

To help speed up the connection to the Exchange server, you could try the following three techniques.

IMPORTANT

These suggestions should be implemented by someone with a good knowledge of the Windows operating system. If you are unsure, please contact your local administrator or a DataGate support representative.

Include Exchange server name in your HOSTS file

If you are using Windows 2000, the hosts file is located in C:|Winnt|System32|Drivers|etc folder. Edit this file using Notepad (or any other text editor), and insert the following lines at the end of the file:

62.204.35.211 ex-dc1.exchange.datagate.net
62.204.35.212 ex-dc2.exchange.datagate.net
62.204.35.213 mail.exchange.datagate.net
62.204.35.222 ex-be1.exchange.datagate.net

Please use Copy & Paste to copy these lines from this article to your hosts file to ensure correct spelling. Do not save this file with a .txt extension. It should have no extension at all, so choose All Files as a file type when saving it from Notepad.

Include Exchange server name in your LMHOSTS file

Create new text document and insert these lines into it:

62.204.35.222 ex-be1 #PRE
62.204.35.211 ex-dc1 #DOM:exchange #PRE
62.204.35.212 ex-dc2 #DOM:exchange #PRE
62.204.35.213 mail #PRE

Save it to your disk, the name is not important. Now go to:

Control Panel | Network Connections | right-click your internet connection and choose Properties | select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the list and click on Properties | click Advanced | go to WINS tab | click Enable LMHOSTS lookup | click Import LMHOSTS, then navigate to the file that you created in the previous step. Click OK to close all windows.

Edit RPC Binding order

Another way to try to speed your connection to our server is to edit the RPC Binding order. This has to be done by editing your registry, so be very careful. Here is what you should do:

Start regedt32.exe and go to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftExchangeExchange Provider

Make sure that your RPC binding order looks like this:

ncacn_ip_tcp,ncacn_spx,ncacn_np,ncacn_vns_spp,ncalrpc,netbios

Once again, please feel free to contact us if you require assistance with any of the above tips.
