Scenario 2: High Performance!

The customer was using a dual server solution to host his database driven e-commerce web site. However due to a recent and successful marketing campaign traffic levels to the web server had reached an unprecedented level, over-stretching the server resources on the single web server. This resulted in frequent periods of downtime on the customers e-commerce site, resulting in lost revenue and frustrated customers.

The problem was made worse by an insufficient back-up policy; although the data had been backed up the restoration time of several hours was not acceptable for such a business model. On top of this the increased traffic to the database driven website led to higher demands on the database server, above and beyond the expectations when the server was initially configured.

Scenario 2

In order to maximise the return on investment (ROI) from the marketing campaign our technical experts introduced a second web server and hardware load balancer to handle the increased traffic to the web site. Further to this we added an additional CPU to the database server, and reconfigured the RAID level for better performance and redundancy.
