System Administrator/Engineer

Job Role Specification for the Datagate NOC (Network Operation Centre) System Administrator / Engineer,

Duration: Full Time

Location: Based in London you will be working at our offices in the Ealing (W5) occasionally performing data centre operations from the Data Centre in the City (E1) where our network is installed.

Job Role: Your responsibility will include management and troubleshooting, systems upgrades, capacity planning and monitoring of our network services and servers. We require a Systems Administrator/Engineer who can give his personal and unique touch to our existing technical platform. UNIX knowledge is essential (RedHat, Suse, Fedora Core) and knowledge of Windows platform is an additional bonus. You should also have a good understanding of networking principles, Internet protocols, DNS, Perl or Shell scripting as well as an in-depth knowledge of SQL databases and Web services. You must be a team player with good communication skills as you will be dealing with people at all levels. You will provide the expertise in the data centre rack management and rack equipment installation, as well as ensuring the optimal capacity planning of our data centre racks. You will manage and update the hardware inventory of our network equipment. You should be comfortable working with server and network hardware - building, configuring, upgrading and repairing the servers, custom built for the customers. As with any role of this nature there will be a requirement both for regular and on call duties and occasional unscheduled out of hours work in our Data Centre. Apart from the emergency visits to the Data Centre, unscheduled work may include critical technical support queries if there is a major problem in the operation of Datagate’s network services or when there is scheduled maintenance to be carried out.

The role is challenging and will involve working on many different projects, maintaining existing systems and contributing to the development of the new ones. Requirements:

  • IT background, hosting background preferable, a minimum of 3 year's hands-on experience in a similar focused role would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and network management
  • Knowledge of SQL, Perl, PHP, Apache, shell scripting
  • Excellent customer service ethics
  • Advanced knowledge of the following operating systems: RedHat, Suse Linux, Windows platform is always a plus
  • Familiarity with server hardware and ability to recognize and address hardware faults
  • Knowledge of clustered and/or load balanced systems and administration of Cisco routers and switches is plus.
  • Valid UK driving licence

    Salary: From £28,000 to £37,000 Depending on Experience + Benefits
